Hunter Guide

1. Intro
2. PvP
3. PvE
4. Talents
5. Equipment

• Intro

The hunter is a very versatile class in PvP and PvE as they have a number of crowd control abilities which make them very useful in groups as well as solo. Hunters have a number of very useful roles as well as having the ability to do a lot of damage.

Hunters also have the benefit of having a pet to tank for them handle adds or to just deal more damage. Any team can use a hunter as they have a lot of useful things to bring to a group.

• PvP

In PvP hunters are extremely useful with a number of abilities allowing them to kite an enemy back and forth while taking barely any damage at all. In pretty much any situation you will want to at all times keep your distance.

Here's a few of the most useful abilities in PVP:

Freezing Trap: Freezes the enemy in ice making them un-able to move and making them easy targets. You can also feign death and drop another trap in the middle of combat to catch them off guard.

Aspect of the Cheetah: When combined with a snare such as Concussive Shot this will allow you to make some great distance between you and the enemy.

Concussive Shot: A very useful attack that slows the enemy and if you can master the ability of the spin shot you can spin around and hit someone with this then continue running almost immediately.

Feign Death: Allows you to drop a trap in the middle of combat by thus making this a very useful ability.

Warriors: Fighting warriors can be easy or hard depending on your strategy. Kiting them is generally the best thing to do and generally just do everything you can to stay away from them. Any warrior can be deadly in close range combat and so spam your wing clip and if possible feign death and drop a trap on them if they get close.

If you can stay away from them and kite them they should be easy but if they get in close they can hamstring and slaughter you.

Paladin: Almost the same as with warriors except that if they get in close range they aren't nearly as deadly. Kite them if possible but remember they have blessing of freedom which can be very annoying.

If the paladin has a shield you might as well slow him and run as they take forever to kill.

Shaman: Shamans can be as deadly as warriors with frost shock and earthbind totem. Try to stay out of shocking range and to drain their mana with viper sting. Let your pet slowly kill them as you kite them just out of range of their spells.

If the shaman gets in close range he can deal a lot of damage with windfury and his shocks so try to always keep far away.

Rogue: If you can spot the rogue ahead of time you can easily dispatch them as with hunters mark + aspect of the cheetah you can stay out of their range while you slaughter them. If they get you from stealth set you pet to passive and feign death + freeze trap them. Wing clip and run out of melee range then turn on cheetah.

Warlock: Warlocks can be challenging with their high damage shadow bolt and high life if they are demon spec. Viper sting them and sick your pet on them try to take them down as fast as possible because if they get their DoT's off you will be in trouble.

Priest: Priests can be challenging depending on how they play. Holy priests shouldn't be much of a problem with their pitiful DPS but shadow priests can present a real problem with the AoE fear and heals. Drain their mana and stay out of range of their damage spells.

Mage: Mages can have massive first strikes and thus you want to avoid getting hit with their full alpha strike. Viper sting and do as much damage as possible and if you have any interrupting skills such as scatter shot do them when the mage is trying to start their initial strike.

Druid: Kite the druid if possible but remember that druids can shapeshift to remove all snares/roots. This can really make it hard to fight a druid as they can do a large amount of damage in cat form. Just try and stay out of range but don't rely on your snares as they can remove them at any time.

Here's a good macro for using freezing trap in PvP mash it a few times to get it to work.

/cast Freezing Trap
/script PetFollow(); PetPassiveMode(); ClearTarget();
/cast Feign Death

• PvE

In PvE hunters are great as they have amazing continuous DPS. This makes them especially good for long boss encounters as well as being able to do good burst DPS on shorter fights.

Also you have the benefit of your pet dealing dps or tanking for you or your party. Also you can split pulls with your Freeze trap and this really helps in harder dungeons with large elite mob pulls.

In solo PvE or grinding you can excel as well as you don't need to use mana very much at all and you can keep on chain pulling monsters making hunters one of the fastest levelers as well as money makers.

For grinding just find a nice spot with a lot of monsters that are spaced out a bit and start chain pulling and killing them all. Just watch a movie while you're doing it and you can pull in a lot of gold and items in a day.

Look at the money making guide for some great grinding spots.
